In concert with our business strategy, NV Energy also supports education programs aimed at providing a ready and able renewable energy workforce. NV Energy is committed to improving education at all levels in the communities were we live and work by continuing to support and sponsor a wide variety of scholarships, safety and educational programs that benefit our youth.

Conservation, Safety and Educational Resources for Kids

Kidzone
NV Energy's Kidzone has a wealth of energy information geared towards kids. Games, quizzes, fun facts and information are available to help kids learn how to save energy and stay safe around gas and electricity. Kidzone includes:

Electrical and Natural Gas Safety Website: At our Electrical and Natural Gas Safety Website, children learn to perform home safety audits (with an adult's help), print out safety certificates and play fun games and activities. There are also guides for teachers with activities, games and experiments for a range of interests and reading levels from elementary through middle schools.

Tutoring Resources
NV Energy is working with the Clark County School District to offer southern Nevada students the Homework Hotline. Students can call the hotline and ask for help with their homework, especially math and language arts. NV Energy also works with Washoe County School District’s Read & Succeed program to recruit and train volunteers as reading tutors to help children improve their reading skills.

Educational Partnerships
NV Energy participates in the Clark County School District's Partnership Program Focus School Project that matches schools with businesses, organizations, agencies, and individuals to bring needed resources to students. NV Energy's focus school is Myrtle Tate Elementary. NV Energy also supports the Libby Booth Community Garden in Reno to help students and their families gain a better understanding of healthy living and eating.

Scholarships

NV Energy offers scholarships for high school and college students in our northern and southern service territories.

Educational Programs

Renewable Energy Education
In partnership with the University of Nevada, Reno, NV Energy led the creation of a renewable energy minor as part of the University of Nevada, Reno's College of Engineering degree programs. The renewable energy minor offers interdisciplinary courses that encourage the study and expansion of renewable energy technology, installation and policy.

NV Energy is also a supporter of Truckee Meadows Community College's renewable energy program. The program provides TMCC students with the hands-on training for careers in the renewable energy industry. Workshops and seminars are also available to working adults who want to improve their skills and adapt to changes in the industry.

McGruff Truck Youthwatch Program
NV Energy participates in this program, which teaches school children to recognize McGruff truck decals on NV Energy vehicles. Children in danger can wave the vehicle down and get help from our trained drivers.

America's Schools Recycling Program
The America's Schools Recycling Program and the Nevada Association of School Boards have formed a partnership with NV Energy to support K-12 educational and extracurricular programs in public schools. By participating in this program, NV Energy will generate additional dollars for school programs such as arts, music, drama, athletics, libraries, computers and other subjects.
