Las Vegas Targets Life Science and Bio Tech Companies

Nevada Development Authority Adds Boston to Ongoing Eastern U.S. Campaign

Nevada Development Authority (NDA) has selected Boston for its next targeted campaign in its ongoing effort to recruit life science and bio tech companies in the region. NDA will be exhibiting at Boston's BIO 2007 International Convention from May 6-9 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. It is NDA's goal to educate the approximate 20,000 convention attendees on the growing life science and bio tech infrastructure in Las Vegas while promoting the substantial benefits of a favorable tax climate, overall low costs of doing business and less bureaucratic, business-friendly state and local governments. In addition, NDA will also launch an innovative billboard campaign to educate Boston businesses and BIO 2007 attendees.

"Las Vegas is recognized more and more by business and industry as a prime location for doing business. We have a growing life science and bio tech infrastructure, and along with no state corporate income tax and no personal income tax, this is something that the rest of the country should know about. In fact, the latest Tax Foundation rankings put Nevada as one of the top five states for 'Best Tax Climates,'" said Somer Hollingsworth, president and CEO of NDA. "We think that this is the perfect time to add the Boston area and its depth of potential companies to our campaign. We're looking forward to the opportunity of participating in the BIO 2007 International Convention."

NDA's Eastern U.S. campaign initially started in New Jersey on the heels of the legislative budget instability in the 3rd Quarter of 2006. The multi-tiered New Jersey campaign, which included a direct mailing of "Las Vegas Relocation Kits" to more than 120 Presidents and CEOs of New Jersey companies, has continued to yield inquiries and exposure for Las Vegas' pro-business environment and tax system. In response to the numerous prospects from New Jersey businesses, the NDA has decided to expand its search for other prominent companies on the eastern seaboard to include Boston.

This is not the first time that the Nevada Development Authority has hosted high-profile media campaigns targeting specific markets. In the past two years, as a result of the highly-effective launch in California, NDA recruited more than 30 businesses to relocate or expand to Las Vegas. Successes have included: Advanced Medical Imaging and Genetics, a personalized medicine company in the business of molecular and imaging diagnostics, therapeutics and prognostic solutions; Noninvasive Medical Technologies, a manufacturer of patented, FDA-approved medical devices; and InfoGenesis, a company specializing in delivering innovative software solutions to the hospitality and food service industries for total guest experience management.

List of reasons to relocate or expand from the eastern region of the U.S. to Las Vegas:
1. Business-friendly state and local government
2. No state corporate income tax
3. No personal income tax
4. Excellent state incentives
5. Educated, expanding and cost-effective workforce
