Amid rising unemployment, home foreclosures and bankruptcies, NV Energy's Energy Assistance Expos brought together tangible assistance to the customers who needed it the most.
The first Energy Assistance Expo happened in August 2007 in Las Vegas and was quickly followed by another expo in Reno by March 2008. The Expos are designed to educate customers about a variety of available assistance programs and, in many cases, connect them with programs that day.
The event brings together local nonprofit agencies and organizations in one place to create a one-stop shop setting for individuals to obtain assistance and information The goals of the event include educating families about the importance of conservation and energy efficiency, educating the community about available resources and assisting customers in the near-term with financial assistance.
In 2008, more than 2,000 customers total in Reno and Las Vegas were assisted by 400 volunteers at the Energy Assistance Expos. NV Energy's Energy Assistance Expo one-stop shop approach to energy assistance received the 2007 Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Advocacy Excellence Award.
