NV Energy by the Numbers

Investing in Nevada's Energy Future

NV Energy is proud of the investments made on behalf of its customers to secure a reliable and clean energy future.

Built at the site of a former NV Energy coal plant, the Reid Gardner Battery Storage System is a 220-megawatt two-hour grid-tied battery system. The batteries can be charged and discharged based on generation elsewhere in NV Energy’s system, and helps serve the company’s peak load, particularly in the summer.

Dry Lake is a utility-owned project that provides 150 megawatts of solar energy and is co-located with a four-hour 100-megawatt battery energy storage system. The project reached commercial operation in May 2024 – just in time for one of the hottest summers on record in Las Vegas.

Other significant milestones from the year include the Record of Decision granted for Greenlink West, a portion of the Greenlink Nevada transmission project to strengthen the system, improve reliability, and create greater access to Nevada’s resource-rich renewable energy zones. Additionally, work began at Sierra Solar, a 400-megawatt solar powered site with four-hour battery storage system in northern Nevada.

Power Safe NV

Wildfire prevention and safety have been a top focus for the company for several years. In 2024, NV Energy launched a more robust policy to protect our customers, community, first responders, and infrastructure by expanding fire risk zones for its Public Safety Outage Management events. Further, emergency de-energization was implemented to proactively shut off power when an active wildfire moves close enough to threaten power equipment.

Over the course of the year, crews continued proactive wildfire prevention activities, including:

  • Trimming or removing more than 15,500 trees and clearing 1,953 miles of overhead lines to enhance the safety and reliability of electric infrastructure.
  • Inspecting 14,143 poles and patrolling 46,521 miles of line to check for damage and potential hazards.
  • Rebuilding 10.9 miles of overhead lines to wildfire ruggedization standards and replacing 3,010 expulsion fuses with safer alternatives in high fire-risk areas.

Powering Possibilities

NV Energy prides itself on giving back to the communities it serves. The company, its Foundation, and employees contributed more than $7.4 million to support hundreds of nonproft organizations statewide in 2024. This includes the financial support of 86 percent of NV Energy employees who made their own personal charitable contributions through the company’s annual workplace giving campaign and/or served more than 42,000 volunteer hours with charitable and community organizations. Annually, the NV Energy Foundation provides $850,000 to statewide utility assistance funds, providing relief in 2024 to nearly 4,000 customers experiencing economic hardship. The NV Energy Foundation is funded by shareholders, not NV Energy customers.
