Douglas County Location/Market Access
Trucking
There are two major transportation corridors serving Douglas County. Highway 395 passes directly through the towns of Minden and Gardnerville. The Lake Tahoe area is served primarily by U.S. 50 which connects Lake Tahoe with Sacramento to the west and continues east through Carson City where it intersect U.S. 395. The Minden and Gardnerville areas are connected to the Lake Tahoe area by State Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade).
Several local, regional and national carriers are used for shipment in and out of Douglas County to 80 percent of the 11-state western region on a next-day basis.

Foreign Trade Zones
Northern Nevada has nearly 7,500 acres of Foreign Trade Zones. A Foreign Trade Zone is designated by the United States Customs Department and allows foreign and domestic merchandise to be admitted for operations such as storage, exhibition, assembly, manufacture, and processing, without being subject to formal Customs entry procedures, the payment of Customs duties or the payment of federal excise taxes.

Rail Service
Passenger rail service is provided by Amtrak out of Reno or Sparks, 45 miles to the north. Freight service is provided by Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific Railroads out of Reno/Sparks, 45 miles to the north, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe out of Lyon County, 50 miles to the east.
Bus Service
The Tahoe Basin portion of Douglas County is served on a contract basis. While there is no local bus service in the Carson Valley area, Greyhound Bus Lines provides regional service from Gardnerville.
Airport
Minden-Tahoe Airport
The Minden-Tahoe Airport is a 990-acre general aviation non-towered airport. Built in 1942 as a military training base, Douglas County acquired the Airport and has operated it as a municipal airport governed by Douglas County Board of County Commissioners. The Airport serves a broad base of aviation uses from corporate to recreational flying. It is home to approximately 250 aircraft with 80,000 annual operation. It is also home to the Minden Tanker Base and the Sierra Front Dispatch Agency with primary mission of dispatching tankers to fires in the Sierra Nevada region.
Carson City Airport
The Carson City Airport has one 5,900 ft. lighted runway, one 3,400 ft. unpaved taxiway and one 2,600 ft., 35-foot-wide paved taxiway. No commercial services exist. Fixed-based operators in operation are Silver Sky Aviation, Weaver Aircraft, Shadetree Aviation and El Aero Services.
Reno-Tahoe International Airport
Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RTIA) is located a short distance from the Carson City area. RTIA is the nation's 63rd busiest airport. Each day the airport handles approximately 17,000 arriving/departing passengers, 283,000 pounds of cargo arriving/departing and 420 aircraft operations. There are three runways, the main runway is 11,000 ft, the crosswind runway is 6,100 ft. and a parallel runway that is 9,000 ft. U.S. Customs and Immigration Offices are located on the airport premises. RTIA is a landing rights airport and Port of Entry.
