Industry studies prove that upgrading to smart thermostats typically results in up to 10% heating and cooling energy savings (average estimates).

Powerful Deal

Receive free equipment, installation and subscription in exchange for participation in a limited number of Community Energy Events.

Smart Thermostat Commercial is open on a first-come, first-served basis.

What You Get

NV Energy offers a reliable and intuitive thermostat system designed for commercial installations, at no cost.

  • Control HVAC temperature via a streamlined, centralized web portal. User-friendly scheduling and grouping of thermostat settings; decide who has access to adjust settings, when and by how much
  • Know exactly how your facility is operating. The system monitors and analyzes energy use and space temperature; helps diagnose maintenance problems; and provides automatic fault detection, data visualization and reporting tools

How To Participate

NV Energy provides the equipment, information and guidance you need to help manage your energy consumption. During Community Energy Events, program thermostats are “set back” from the current settings by four degrees. You maintain control over the system to ensure occupant comfort.

How Community Energy Events work:

  • You receive notice of events one day in advance by phone, text or email
  • You are asked to participate in 75% of the events, or 15 per year, whichever is less
  • You can choose to take up to 25% of your thermostats out of an event and still qualify as participating in the event
  • Events occur weekdays June through September, excluding holidays.
  • Events last two hours and occur between 1-7 p.m., typically between 3-5 p.m.

How The System Works

Pelican wireless smart thermostats automatically route and repeat the system’s communications, easily spreading wireless control through a single building. This secure, encrypted wireless communication protocol does not interfere with Wi-Fi or other wireless signals. The thermostat’s wireless gateway serves as the communications hub between thermostats installed at your facility and Pelican cloud servers. Communication is initiated outbound only and can be placed inside or outside of firewalls.

Equipment Guidelines For The Facility

  • Must have a dedicated thermostat for each HVAC unit (a one-for-one relationship)
  • Must provide power and outbound Internet access for the gateway device (basic thermostat functions work during service interruptions, and wireless communications automatically reconnect when service returns)
  • The technology is designed for those without a building management system
  • A detailed site audit is required for facilities with Internet access restrictions, unusual building configurations, pneumatic thermostats, zone controllers, American Standard brand thermostats or Trane HVAC units

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does it cost?

NV Energy provides standard equipment, installation and subscription costs as long as you participate in the program. The term of the agreement is five years. After that, you own the equipment. A system with 10 thermostats has an estimated value of more than $4,000.

  • How do I save on my energy bill?

You reduce energy costs through more accurate scheduling and fault detection. Participation in Community Energy Events may reduce your demand charges and, in some cases, move you into a less expensive electricity rate.

  • How do I program the thermostats?

NV Energy provides initial programming based on your needs. The smart thermostat’s intuitive web interface offers a full range of scheduling and access options, allowing you to modify the setup when your needs change.

  • What if I change my mind?

You can cancel your participation at any time. NV Energy will remove the equipment (and re-install old equipment, if applicable), or you can purchase the equipment (based on depreciated value). Equipment must be returned in good working order.

  • Can I test the user interface?
