Homework Hotline

NV Energy is working with the Clark County School District to offer southern Nevada students the Homework Hotline. Students can call the hotline and ask for help with their homework, especially math and language arts. They can also watch the Homework Hotline television show to participate in the program's "Question of the Day" to win prizes and see teachers answer questions from students about homework.

The hotline--at 402-5111--is available Monday through Thursday, 3:30-5:30 p.m. The Homework Hotline television show can be seen on Channel 70 or cable channel 1 (Cox Communications in the Las Vegas Valley) if the students are at home. If they are in Safekey, they can watch it on Channel 7 (the ITFS channel). During the 2004-2005 school year the show will run from September 13 through June 30.

Read & Succeed

NV Energy works with the Washoe County School District to promote its Read & Succeed program by holding book drives and providing volunteers.  Read & Succeed trains and places volunteers in local schools to improve the reading skills of children who read below grade level.  The program is a year-long program and rewards children who reach their reading goal with books donated from the community.

Washoe County School District provide students free access to SmartThinking.com. SmartThinking.com is an online tutoring program that connects students to live, certified instructors in a variety of subject areas. Students can get help in Math, English and Science at any time through the internet.

Students who live outside Washoe County and are interested in SmartThinking.com can ask their school district about providing the online tutoring, or they can purchase individual access to obtain additional tutoring help.
