The NV Energy Foundation believes the Power of Good is Always On. And we know that the Power of Good is Always On in Nevada’s non-profit organizations as well.

The NV Energy Charitable Foundation wants to highlight the valuable work of organizations that focus on one of our giving priorities, serving youth in the communities where we live and work.

Eligible non-profits will have the opportunity to submit an application for a chance to win $20,000 statewide--$10,000 in southern Nevada and $10,000 in northern Nevada—to support youth programs in our service territory.

This giveaway is a unique opportunity to celebrate the good work of Nevada’s non-profits, and direct a portion of our annual giving to the causes those in our communities care about the most.

To participate, fill out an application before June 23. Voting for the contest takes place July 10 through 21. Complete details are included below:

Youth Category Description

The NV Energy Charitable Foundation seeks to develop strategic partnerships with 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations that have a demonstrated history of delivering innovative and effective programs for youth, under the age of 20, in our service areas.

How the Contest Works

  • The contest will be administered separately between the NV Energy northern and southern Nevada Community Relations departments.
  • Organizations providing services or programs statewide are limited to apply to one service territory location only (i.e. southern Nevada or northern Nevada).
  • Completely fill out and submit the application at the link above to be entered into the contest no later than 11:59 p.m. PDT on Friday, June 23, 2017.
  • Applications will be reviewed by a subcommittee comprised of NV Energy Charitable Foundation representatives for eligibility, based solely on the criteria described below, between June 26, 2017 and July 7, 2017.
  • All organizations will be notified of entry eligibility no later than July 7, 2017.
  • The contest launches July 10, 2017, at 8:00 a.m. PDT, on the official NV Energy Foundation Power of Good Giveaway voting portal, and will contain a northern bracket and a southern bracket.
  • It is the responsibility of the eligible nonprofit to promote the contest and obtain votes for their organization.
  • Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. PDT on July 21, 2017.
  • Votes will be tallied from July 24, 2017 through July 28, 2017 and all entrants will be notified of results by email. Results will also be posted on NV Energy’s website.
  • The organization with the most votes WINS! In the event of a tie, the prize money will be split evenly amongst the tied organizations.


  • Nonprofit organizations must submit a fully completed application no later than 11:59 p.m. PDT on Friday, June 23, 2017.
  • The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
  • Pursuant to NV Energy Charitable Foundation’s criteria, non-profit organizations that intend to use the Contest funds for any of the following are excluded from participating in the Contest:
    • Individuals
    • Tickets for contests, raffles or other activities with prizes
    • Religious organizations (unless the request specifically supports a program offered to the general public on a non–discriminatory basis and without regard to the recipient’s religious affiliation)
    • Film, television or video productions
    • Capital campaigns, endowment funds
    • Academic chairs or fellowships
    • Debt–reduction campaigns
    • Political and partisan organizations or events
    • Sports leagues and tournaments
    • Trips or tours for individuals or groups
    • Talent or beauty contests
    • Conferences
  • Nonprofits must provide their EIN number for verification of IRS 501(c)(3) status.
  • Nonprofits must be in good legal standing to operate and do business as a nonprofit in the State of Nevada.
  • Organizations must operate within NV Energy's southern and/or northern Nevada service areas.
  • Organizations must include a brief description of the programs and/or services they provide the youth within NV Energy's southern and northern Nevada service areas.
  • The Power of Good Giveaway is separate from the traditional NV Energy Charitable Foundation grant process. Organizations that have already received or intend to apply for a grant in 2017 are still eligible to participate in this contest.
  • Organizations may only submit one application for one program in the youth category.

Terms and Conditions
