NV Energy employees give generously of their time to community initiatives. From United Way campaigns, to collecting food and clothing and mentoring children, employees are helping to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. Each year, employees volunteer more than 30,000 hours of community service to local charities throughout Nevada. We support efforts that are essential to a community's welfare and vitality.

Employee Volunteer Councils

A key component of our commitment to volunteerism are the two Employee Volunteer Councils (EVC) working in both our southern and northern service territories. The EVC consists of employees from diverse backgrounds who coordinate and lead year-round volunteer activities. In addition, the EVC is a decision-making team that evaluates Company-wide volunteer opportunities presented to NV Energy. The purpose of the EVC is to:

  • Enlist and motivate volunteers
  • Attract new volunteers
  • Garner support for innovative efforts
  • Make recommendations for community involvement
  • Recognize employee volunteers
  • Tie volunteer initiatives to our business purpose

They are a talented and dynamic group of individuals who take an active role in mobilizing volunteers in an organized effort to assist local nonprofits.

How to Request Employee Volunteers

VolunteerMatch.com is website that helps our employees connect with volunteer opportunities that fit their personal preferences. VolunteerMatch.com is a nationwide service that strengthens communities by making it easier for good people and good causes to connect.

VolunteerMatch has two main goals. First, it helps to increase NV Energy's involvement in the communities we serve. Second, it provides a service to employees who want to get involved in their communities but may not know where to start.

If an organization is looking for great volunteers, VolunteerMatch can help. To help promote volunteer opportunities to NV Energy employees and retirees, please register volunteer opportunities with VolunteerMatch at www.volunteermatch.org.  VolunteerMatch's basic service is free and available to all nonprofit and tax-exempt charitable organizations.

Sierra Connectors

Once an employee retires from NV Energy in northern Nevada, they have the privilege of becoming a Sierra Connector. Sierra Connectors get involved in various volunteer events throughout the year, some with NV Energy employees and some on their own. Although, every retiree is a Connector, over 100 actively volunteer together. The group has a board of directors that meets once a month to review upcoming events, issues, etc. Each board member collectively decides on events to be involved in as well as designates persons to lead those events. They continually look for new ways to involve fellow retirees while helping the community and promoting camaraderie with one other.

Each December, the Connectors assemble food baskets for over 100 needy seniors in northern Nevada and take the time to deliver each one personally. At the same time many are volunteering their time for the Salvation Army Silver Angel Tree. This is a true testament to the value NV Energy Connectors bring to our community.

Community and Civic Leadership

Nonprofit organizations need people with strong business and leadership skills to be more efficient and effective. At NV Energy we depend on our leadership for success. We encourage individual participation from our management team to share their knowledge and expertise to help strengthen nonprofit agencies.
