  • What is a Community Energy Event?

    On days when electricity will be in high demand or when there is an emergency, NV Energy will issue a Community Energy Event. During one of these "events", we ask customers to voluntarily reduce their energy use for a few hours on a particular day.

  • Why do we need Community Energy Events?

    The demand for electricity is typically at its highest during the summer months when air conditioners and pool pumps are consistently running. These voluntary events reduce the demand which also reduces our need to build new power plants and increase rates.

  • What are the other benefits of Community Energy Events?

    You'll have a lower power bill when you use less electricity. Also you'll be joining others in our community by helping to reduce the demand and that helps the environment by lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

  • How will I be notified of a Community Energy Event?

    You will be notified by email, text or voice message (your choice) the day before an event. On rare occasions, when there is an immediate need, you may receive notifications on the actual day of the event.

  • How long does a Community Energy Event last?

    Events typically last 2 hours, with the start time noted in the email you will receive prior to the event itself.

  • How do I participate in a Community Energy Event?

    It's easy to participate – just reduce your energy use! There are a variety of ways to do just that, including increasing your thermostat by 4 degrees, powering down electronics, turning off lights and waiting to do household chores until after the event.

  • Can I automatically participate in Community Energy Events?

    Yes, our Smart Thermostat service automates participation in Energy Events by adjusting your thermostat temperature for a few hours behind the scenes. When you enroll in this service you receive up to four FREE thermostats and FREE installation, and savings on your energy bill all year. To join others in your community who are saving, click here.

  • How many times will Community Energy Events occur?

    Depending upon the weather and anticipated energy needs, there may be 4-10 events each year. For Smart Thermostat customers, who generally don't even notice the events, there may be 25-35 events spread across the June to September summer months.

  • What if I can't participate in a Community Energy Event?

    If you are unable to lower your usage during a particular Energy Event, there are no repercussions. There will be other opportunities to participate.
